When it's summer, people flock to the beaches and pool. As for me, well, I'm pretty pale year round and I'm okay with that. haha. However, these past few weekends have been unbearably hot and luckily, my friend was dog-sitting at a swanky apartment complex with a beautiful salt water pool, complete with a barbecue grill and shady cabanas. Well..I wouldn't mind living here. Anyway, before soaking in the sun poolside, we went to grab brunch/lunch at a spot I had just read about. Unfortunately, the spot was closed because the owners went on vacation. Just my luck. Since we were half way to a spot I had bookmarked ages ago, I thought, "Why not? I'm basically there."
Urban Grill and Wine bar is located in a very interesting corporate plaza / hotel plaza / middle of nowhere plaza. Just driving to the destination, it seems out of place, but it was nice and quiet. The interior is spacious and cool, but we we decided to sit outside under the shade where there was a nice breeze.
Started the brunch with mimosas. We tried the mango-mosa and a regular OJ/champagne mix. We looked at the brunch menu and saw that there's a great deal for a bottle of sparkling wine with four mixers. Perhaps I'll opt-in next time.
My friend Natsumi wanted brunch, so she got the pork and eggs. Brown sugar infused pork chop with a nice sear and glaze paired with eggs (however you like it), spiced apples and a side of potatoes.
I wasn't quite feeling breakfast foods. I was craving fried chicken (typical), so I went with the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Salad and a side of Urban Mac N Cheese. Huge portion for salad with a generous handful of toppings like cucumber, cranberries and pumpkin seeds. They don't skimp on those. This is probably one of the few times I ever, really, order a salad as an entree.
The mac n cheese was rich and topped with the crispiest prosciutto bits ever. It comes in a tiny pot, but don't be fooled. It's just enough!
We were so filled to the brim, food coma began settling in as we took our last bites. I had to package the left overs cause there was no way I could finish this in one sitting. Overall, I would love to come back to check out their dinner menu and wine list. They have extensive wine list, so perhaps I'll plan an occasion here soon!
